Welcome. We're a well-kept secret...
Progressive. Rural. Relaxed. Eclectic. Jack's Mountain Preserve is a new evolving community with a mix of home styles and people and ages - from modern metal to brick ranch to tiny home, progressive to traditional, and children to retirees. We are a new locally-owned community designed for people who appreciate nature and want to be part of an easy-going but friendly neighborhood.
Just out of the fray, we enjoy natural beauty, peace and quiet, star-filled night skies, and clean mountain water. Only fifteen minutes from the buzz of Black Mountain, residents enjoy scenic views of mountains, forests, and rolling pastures, as well as low property taxes and less traffic and less population density. Residents are encouraged to raise a few chickens, keep bees, take our yoga classes, have an edible landscape, walk the green space... or just relax and enjoy the views.
Investing in affordable McDowell County real estate is a smart move for the future. Buncombe County is exploding and people are beginning to explore beyond its borders, finding more affordable and less dense places to live and invest. McDowell County is a beautiful, rural, and affordable alternative - a well kept secret just now being discovered.
Not a Corporate Development.
Jack's Mountain Preserve is not owned by the deep pockets of an anonymous development corporation. We are locally owned and developed by two people who have a personal investment in the future of this community.
Build Small; Live Large.
If you're looking to downsize your lifestyle or maintain a vacation getaway with a smaller home option, we offer lots between 1/4 to 1/2- acre specifically for homes with footprints from 400 sf to 2000 sf (not including basements and upper levels). All lots have views and plenty of trees. We encourage green building practices that take advantage of our natural environment, such as passive solar.
Enjoy both your privacy and a sense of connection at Jack's Mountain Preserve.

Jack's Mountain Recreation
We have about 40 acres of private property green space (transitioning from a former old country golf course), the visual centerpiece around which the community is built that offers a great place to stroll or have picnic and affords open views. We have deeded that the land can never be developed for residential building. Multi-use plans for the property include light organic-practice agriculture, some farm animals, walking trails, small events, and a few upscale camping sites.
We are only a few short miles away from beautiful Catawba Falls, Curtis Creek, Pisgah National Forest, The Blue Ridge Parkway, plus mountain bike trails, fishing, hiking, camping, and swimming. And foodie-inspired restaurants, as well as endless music & art venues are fifteen to thirty minutes away in Asheville, Black Mountain and surrounding areas.

Repurposing and updating the old golf clubhouse, we offer upstairs event space with scenic views and a wrap-around deck. And downstairs we're planning to renovate the old grill into a community kitchen, as well as completing an overnight guest room available by reservation. Our newest renovation is an outdoor covered patio - The Bird's Nest - offering mountain views for year-round use by residents and their guests, perfect for casual covered picnics or quiet evening star gazing.
Yoga. Bees. Garden. Chickens.
We offer excellent yoga classes a few times a week (and plan to offer more & different classes as more people arrive). Classes are held in a private event space with beautiful views.
We keep chickens and garden, and residents are also welcome to garden, raise a few chickens, or keep a hive of honeybees. We encourage an easy-going, healthy and sustainable lifestyle at Jack's Mountain Preserve.
Music. Special Events. Evening Fires.
Throughout the year, we occasionally offer gatherings open to the public or just for residents. These include live music, weekend brunches, movie nights, etc. Residents are never obligated to attend, but are always welcome. (We also love our quiet environment so we keep noise to a minimum and generally end music by 10 pm.)
Year-Round Natural Beauty
Every day of every season, there's beauty here. Summer rainstorms. Foggy mornings. Star-filled evening skies. Crisp Autumn foliage. Arcing rainbows. Light winter snows. Spring dogwoods. Enjoy it all at Jack's Mountain Preserve.
